History of GACWSVGA
Government Arts College for women, Sivaganga is the first women college established in the District of Sivagangai, in 1998-99. The first year classes started on 27.08.1998 in Raja Doraisingam
Government Arts College cultural centre. Thiru. R. AYYAPPAN, assumed charge as the special officer for this college on 23.07.1998.
The Government of Tamil Nadu allotted 3.58 Hectare (7.5 Acres) Land in Kanjirangal Village for providing a permanent building for this College. In the year 1998-99, Rs.50 Lakhs was allotted by Union Minister Honourable Thiru. P. Chidambaram, M.P and Rs.25 Lakhs was allotted by Minister for Highways Hon’ble Thiru. T.Krishnan, M.L.A. of this constituency, in the year 1999-2000 Rs.22 Lakhs was given by Standing Committee Member Thiru. E.M. Sudarsana Nachiyappan, M.P. of this Constituency, from the Constituency Development Fund, for constructing the buildings. With these financial assistances an elegant building was constructed. Honorable Education Minister Thiru. Anbazhagan, inaugurated the building on 23.08.2000 and the college started to function in this new building. Minister for Highways Hon’ble Thiru. T.Krishnan, M.L.A. contributed an additional amount of Rs.10 Lakhs from his Constituency Development Fund (1999-2000) for upgrading the Computer Science Department of the college.
Our college received a total amount of Rs.40 Lakhs by the benevolence of Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Honourable Thiru. G. Baskaran M.L.A. Rs.20 Lakhs and Thiru. P. Senthilnathan M.P. of our constituency Rs.20 Lakhs to build four class rooms in our premises for the benefit of our students in the year 2016 -2017. Students are being admitted in thirteen faculties BBA, B.Com. B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Home Science. B.A. Tamil, B.A. English, B.A. History, B.A. Economics, B.Sc. Physics, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Botany and B.Sc. Zoology. In addition, the following P.G. Courses are offered – M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Home Science, M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Phil. Tamil, Ph.D. Tamil and M.Phil. Commerce. English is the medium of teaching for all courses. Old Students Association is actively functioning in this college.
